Audio Empty Audio

Special thank you to Night Furious for spotting the SNGW decryption tool, which can be obtained at the following url:

It was made by Maluc, and you can either drag and drop an individual SNGW file to it, or via the command line use the syntax of:

sngw [filename].sngw or filename and it's exact directory location.

The encryption will be removed, if you've already done this, the tool will prompt via CMD that there is no encryption. Once in this state, you can simply rename from .SNGW to .OGG and load it into audio editing software such as Audacity. (I recommend doing this in bulk via CMD or writing a batch-file).

PLEASE NOTE: I have yet to test whether or not the game will register the decrypted files, or to look into copying the encryption method to enable new audio to go into the game so far.

The audio formats found within Revelations 2 are the following:

.SNGW:
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}These are encrypted OGG Vorbis files, I haven't figured out how to modify these to allow for new audio within the game. Aside from the encryption, they seem to be similar if not the same as what was used in Revelations and 6.

These are divided into a few different types despite having the same format:

bgm#### - background music.
bgmr### - RAID background music.
s###_###_##_CHARACTER_LANGUAGE - in-game chatter per character, per individual language. States room/stage file and subtitle/audio order.
d####_bgm - cutscene background music.
d####_se_LANGUAGE - cutscene sound effect and voice over mix, per individual language.
pl####_###_##_LANGUAGE -character in-game sounds for both main game and RAID.
pl####_###_#@_LANGUAGE - variants exist of certain lines, @ is used here to mean a LETTER is used instead of a number to designate a variant of this particular line and will typically include: whispered, aggressive, breathless versions of select response lines.
c#s####e##_common - in-game cutscene event sound effect mix across all language versions. States chapter, stage file and event number order.
c#s####e##_LANGUAGE - in-game cutscene event sound effect mix, per individual language. States chapter, stage and event number order.
s###_###_##_CHARACTER_LANGUAGE - in-game chatter per character, per individual language. States room/stage file and subtitle/audio order.

You can safely change the background music tracks around, however tracks I have listed within the background music section as a 'stinger' will play incorrectly as these are on a different playback frequency to the rest of the music, these are on a similar frequency to the voice over audio within this format.

If you try to put in-game voice over .SNGW in the place of music .SNGW files then these will play faster or slower, at a higher or lower pitch which confirm the frequency playback discrepancy - this is a fairly common practice in Capcom's games and has been going on since the Dreamcast/PS2 era of their development.


.XSEW & .WAV Files:
{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}The .XSEW files are actually ADPCM WAV files which use a frequency of 48,016 Hertz, 16 bit-depth and Mono channel. However within the actual .ARC files you will often find a folder marked as WAV and a number of sound effects within this folder in this native format, not the .XSEW format within the game's directories.

Both of these can be changed, if you stick to the file formats as specified and keep the file size under then you ought to avoid any crashing of hang problems.

.XSEW/.WAV files are generally for sound effects for:

Character and enemy: breathing, motions (clothing rustles, steps), combat and damage.
Stage sound effects.
Item and weapon sound effects, sound effect loops.
Menu sound effects, including the start menu voice over title call ("BIOHAZARD" or "RESIDENT EVIL" "... REVELATIONS 2").

You may find what appear to be 'duplicates' of files like the following:

titlecall_bhr2_jpn_LFE_.xsew
titlecall_bhr2_jpn_Ls_.xsew
titlecall_bhr2_jpn_R_.xsew
titlecall_bhr2_jpn_Rs_.xsew

Each of these are panned towards a particular sound channel, despite being Mono files to achieve a surround sound mix. This is similar to the files from Revelations which featured numerous audio layers mashed together into the one file causing read problems with numerous programs in that the files specify single Mono tracks and subsequently the programs have read problems.

If this is encountered, I recommend using Audacity (a free audio editor) as it can read the surround mixed files and edit them.

SPA - Spanish voice over and sound effect track

For each of the background music tracks, I have included either a llnk to a YouTube video or directly to an MP3 any tracks lacking YouTube videos and for the unreleased versions of tracks for easier reference.

Tracks that feature fades in the soundtrack were originally two individual tracks in the files of the game and have been respectively marked as Part 1 and Part 2.

I'm not entirely certain on some of the enemy "stinger" tracks (sort sound cue tracks to bridge between enemy tracks and background music, or lack of) and their usage, so I will apologize in advance for the lack of detail on these.

I have not included the Japanese cutscene titles as to try and make this a little easier to read.
